Expansion at Lakeside

20th March 2016

If you visit the main warehouse at Lakeside on a Monday or Friday morning the most likely words you will hear are ‘excuse me’ or ‘sorry’.

Why? A small army of volunteers trying to weigh, label, sort, shelve, remove from shelves and prepare orders for the distribution centres all at the same time in a confined space crammed with food; squeezing successfully – or not – past other workers all trying to carry out their own alloted tasks. It says much for their forbearance that the only words exchanged are those of tolerance and understanding.

Fortunately some relief is at hand!

Thanks to continued massive support from our friends at Community Link and the Rotary Club of Southport Sunrise – and it’s not the first time we have had cause to be grateful to these organisations – we have been able to purchase an additional container to be adapted and used as extra warehouse space. It will be installed adjacent to the existing one and connected to it by a short tunnel.
Planning permission was received this week and the groundwork and foundations have already been completed as our pictures show.

We hope to be up and running by mid April and will show the finished result here.

The extension was delivered and hooked up to our existing facility on the morning of April 5th and is currently being connected to services and will have some minor fitting out work before being brought into full use before the end of April.
